EANTC has been commissioned by Juniper Networks to independently benchmark two of Juniper's 400G core and peering routers – PTX10001-36MR and PTX10008. The tests focused on verifying five major evaluation criteria to meet top requirements: Performance, Filter Scale, Forwarding Information Base (FIB) Scale, Sampling, and Media Access Control Security (MACsec).
Huawei commissioned us to verify their intelligent IP (2020) and Cloud (2021) network solution testing the commercial readiness of the solution's key technologies and fully developed capabilities for the all-service intelligent era. In 2021, Huawei demonstrated an impressive range of new functions supported across the family of NetEngine 8000 routers and the new ATN910D-A chassis.
EANTC validated functional, interoperability and performance aspects of multiple Huawei Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) solutions with a specific focus on Storage Area Network (SAN) use case scenarios.
EANTC independently verified a set of SaaS functions on ZenOSS to monitor Huawei OceanStor V5 Storage, including discovery, inventory and alarm collection. Specifically, we investigated the seamless integration of OceanStor with ZenOSS. We verified that the Huawei storage hardware could be fully displayed initially, and that storage configuration changes resulted in an updated inventory in ZenOSS.
Huawei commissioned EANTC to independently verify the interoperability of Huawei OceanStor Dorado V6 All-Flash Storage with EMC's VPLEX block-based storage virtualization solution for the Storage Area Network (SAN). EANTC confirmed key functional interoperability and resiliency aspects, validating that Huawei OceanStor Dorado V6 All-Flash Storage can be provisioned and operated efficiently and reliably through the EMC VPLEX solution.
EANTC has been commissioned by Viavi to accredit the Viavi TeraVM test solution for use with the NetSecOPEN test methodology. Viavi has passed our accreditation tests and has successfully been accredited by NetSecOPEN. The accreditation and this report cover the ability of Viavi’s TeraVM to test next-generation firewalls.
EANTC confirmed the interoperability between Huawei OceanStor Dorado V6 Storage solution with selected VMware platforms and plugins. The solution demonstrated the capability of storage resources discovery, storage management, monitoring, data replication, resources orchestration, and site recovery management successfully.
EANTC has been commissioned by Lenovo to verify the performance and scalability of the NFWare virtual Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation (vCGNAT) solution. In this test, the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 server hosted NFWare vCGNAT VM. EANTC tested the maximum throughput (Gbps), sessions setup rate (Sessions Per Second), and maximum concurrent sessions of NFWare vCGNAT.
Continuation to the previous report, published on February 2019, EANTC confirmed the performance gain that can be achieved by Intel QuickAssist Technology (QAT) using Fortinet FortiGate as a vSecGW. Our test of the Fortinet FortiGate showed that the Intel® QAT provides performance improvements in the virtualized environment by off-loading the compute-intensive encryption/decryption security operations to QAT adapters.
EANTC was commissioned by Intel to verify the performance gain of Intel Xeon Gold 6252N processors over Xeon Gold 6152 for a reference VNF which is F5 Networks BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager virtual edition.
Intel commissioned EANTC to verify the performance capabilities of the Palo Alto Networks virtual Next Generation Firewall (NG-FW) VM-700. EANTC’s tests were aligned with the use case of small data center NG-FW deployments. In these environments, HTTP/HTTPS traffic throughput and concurrent sessions are the significant parameters to evaluate the performance and the scalability of a NG-FW solution.
EANTC has been commissioned by Intel to evaluate the performance of a virtualized SGi firewall provided by F5 Networks and hosted on HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 servers provided by HPE.
Broadband Forum (BBF) together with EANTC and VMware launched the OB Lab Europe to accelerate network transformation and migration to a cloud-based multi-vendor broadband infrastructure. BBF members will use the lab hosted by EANTC to validate interoperability of virtualized broadband access infrastructure aligning with Broadband Forum standards.
EANTC was commissioned by Lenovo to verify the performance and service scalability of the Fortinet FortiGate as a virtual security gateway (SecGW). The VNF was deployed on Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 compute nodes conforming to the Intel® Select Solution For NFVI program.
Cisco commissioned EANTC to conduct an independent performance test of its new Catalyst 9000 family switches. Our report includes the verification of throughput performance for IP packets (IPv4 and IPv6), Ethernet unicast and multicast frames. In addition, the report also contains scalability tests of the IP Forwarding Information Base (FIB) and Ethernet MAC table.
ADVA commissioned EANTC to verify the functionality of various security features and a few performance aspects of ADVA's FSP 150 encryption edge device. We ran a range of tests on the encryption devices, with particular focus on Carrier Ethernet data protection use cases.
Nuage Networks, a Nokia business, commissioned EANTC to conduct an independent test of their SD-WAN solution. EANTC validated the scalability, functional capabilities, reliability and manageability of the Nuage Networks SD-WAN 2.0 solution extensively.
Juniper Networks commissioned EANTC to conduct an independent review of its Contrail SD-WAN solution. EANTC verified a specific set of test cases, which focused on the breadth and depth of Juniper's SD-WAN solution features and capabilities.
Huawei selected a range of functional aspects from their product portfolio for the verification. EANTC was invited to witness the solution at Huawei's global headquarters in Shenzhen, China, in August 2018. The tests were executed in three different test beds, each focusing on specific aspects of the transport network.
Huawei commissioned us to verify the networking efficiency of their Cloud AI Fabric solution. It includes data center switches and smart network interface cards (NICs) based on 100GigabitEthernet and 25GigabitEthernet. We performed a set of industry-accepted Intel MPI Benchmarks. The results were successfully presented at CeBIT.
Metaswitch commissioned EANTC to verify the scability and integration of their Clearwater IMS Core solution with Cloud Providers such as Amazon AWS or Google Cloud. In addition to this, we emulated a test scenario with a Mobile Network Operator serving up to 20 Million subscribers.
EANTC tested advanced aspects of the Cloud-based Broadband Network Gateway (vBNG) with a focus on performance, scalability and high availability with up to 20 Million emulated subscribers. The solution performed very well across all test scenarios. The engagement built on test cases previously executed in February 2017.
We tested the forwarding performance, power efficiency, scalability and functionality of Huawei’s new 4T Line Processing Unit (LPU) in a Huawei NE9000 series router. Once we concluded the performance of the line card, we turned to the control plane. We verified the maximum capacity of FIB and BGP routing entries as well as core router features.
EANTC has started an SD-WAN testing initiative open to any manufacturer of SD-WAN solutions. Vendors have the opportunity to choose their bespoke test package from EANTC’s SD-WAN testing portfolio. For its participation, Huawei chose the following test areas: Scalability, Endpoint and Link Resiliency, and Performance Monitoring.
EANTC analyzed the functionality of Huawei's new Flex Ethernet (FlexE) network card, the ANK1EV2. We tested new capabilities of the FlexE technology; network slicing and its benefits as a congestion isolation mechanism, and FlexE bonding of Ethernet links. We verified the usability of this card in future 5th Generation mobile networks (5G).
Intel partners with EANTC to verify the performance and reliability of NFV implementations. The testing services offered by EANTC to members of the Intel Network Builders ecosystem allows them to test that their VNFs—and other NFV components—can perform at a carrier-class level. A paper now explains how to get involved.
EANTC verified that the ECS2 Advanced Suite solution can handle up to 500,000 DNS queries per second using a single compute server. We evaluated the performance after all DNS records were cached in DNS Shield. Based on current statistics, the solution is theoretically capable of handling a range of 17 - 33 million subscribers per compute node.
The NetSecOPEN initiative will develop a vendor-independent standard for testing enterprise network security performance. EANTC is looking forward to contribute our expertise to model a transparent and realistic benchmarking methodology for next-generation firewalls. The initiative is open to all interested in collaborating.

EANTC confirmed in a series of verification that FSP 150 ProVMe can replace legacy customer-premises routers with virtualized, integrated solutions, without sacrificing any of the functionality or performance. The independent test series was commissioned by Intel under the Intel Network Builders program.
The Chinese vendor commissioned EANTC to verify the functionality, performance and security of their CloudMetro solution. The main goal of the solution is the transition of the broadband access infrastructure into a cloud-based architecture with a separation of the control and user plane.
EANTC tested interoperability of NFV Management and Orchestration (MANO) solutions, infrastructure (NFVI) and VNFs. The Traffic Steering Engine (TSE) was introduced as a means to load balance as well as chain data plane traffic and tested by EANTC in this regard. To demonstrate a realistic deployment scenario, multiple instances of Sandvine’s Policy Traffic Switch (PTS) Virtual Series were chained. The tests were part of the Intel Network Builders program.
New vendors and vendor combinations were added to the NFVi-VNF interoperability matrix. The results that were collected in EANTC's lab in Berlin with remote support by the participating vendors show interoperability progress but also continuing OpenStack challenges.
EANTC was commissioned within the Intel Network Builders program to perform independent tests of the Metaswitch virtualized Perimeta. In a series of verifications we demonstrated that Perimeta can replace legacy systems, without sacrificing any of the functionality or performance.
The MPC9E exhibited impressive data throughput with 1,6Tbit/s forwarded in unicast and multicast scenarios. It also showed highly respectable average latencies in a unicast test scenario with IPv4, IPv6 and a mix of IPv4 and IPv6 traffic, as well as excellent FIB scale and performance with 10,000,000 routes in both IPv4 and IPv6 scenarios.
We validated performance, scalability, energy efficiency and high availability capabilities in realistic test scenarios. At that, Juniper’s new line cards showed flawless data throughput, excelled in control plane scalability for L2VPNs and L3VPNs and impressed in the L3VPN service failover tests.
The vendor claims it's product is a network function virtualization (NFV) platform designed to simplify the transition to virtualized, cloud-based solutions for both NFV service providers and their customers. We were tasked by Light Reading to evaluate these claims. What we found is promising and the solution performs as specified by Juniper.
We tested the performance and scalability of the Ensemble Connector platform, a customer premises equipment (CPE) virtual switch coupled with an Intel® Atom™-based virtualization (NFV) platform. We focused on a comparison of the forwarding performance of the two virtual switches, which were running on the same COTS server.

EANTC tested the Virtualized Service Router (VSR) for virtual Provider Edge (VSR-PE) and virtual Route Reflector (VSR-RR) applications. The Virtualized Mobile Gateway (VMG) was tested for virtual System Architecture Evolution (SAE) Gateways (VMG-SAEGW) and virtual Evolved Packet Data Gateway (VMG-ePDG) applications.
EANTC and Light Reading, on behalf of the New IP Agency (NIA), announce the publication of the first industry-wide verification of multi-vendor interoperability of NFVIs (Network function virtualization infrastructure) with VNFs (Virtual Network Function). 12 participants, 39 tested combinations and a pass rate of 64% make for exciting results.
Brocade, Fortinet, Intel, Ixia, Overture, Spirent and Supermicro collaborated to provide independent NFV performance and service chain validation on low cost COTS hardware. Using a real-world traffic model, Overture ECE solution equipped with VNF’s from Brocade and Fortinet showed solid line-rate performance in all test scenarios.
Based on a range of tests with data download and streaming 4K video, we could verify the ability of Huawei’s RACE TCP acceleration technology to maintain good TCP performance in a network significantly impaired by random packet loss and high delay and delay variation.

We are excited to publish our independent validation of Juniper's NorthStar Controller. In a world where automation and agility are the corner stone, we extensively tested an operator's ability to use the NorthStar Controller's holistic view, driven by graphical user interface, as well as REST APIs, to set, modify and optimize network paths.
After the success of the 2014 EANTC report, Ericsson asked EANTC to create an updated version covering additional fixed/mobile solution capabilities and newly available products. The update confirms that the included Smart Services Router (SSR) lives up to its name, delivering true multi-services such as BNG, IPsec, Ethernet and IP/MPLS.
The report is the first tangible, complete, end-to-end independent validation of Cisco’s NFV architecture. We explore the use of free software and standardized interfaces to orchestrate and manage devices and services. EANTC has tested Policy and Charging Rule Function (PCRF) solutions since 2010. From the start, we have worked with Developing Solutions, a test equipment vendor specializing in Evolved Packet Core (EPC) interface testing. When they announced a fourfold increased performance of their product, EANTC set out to validate the claim.
The PoC members Altera, Broadcom, Huawei and Tilera wanted to demonstrate the benefits of hardware acceleration in NFV environments for functions that are compute or network intensive. One example thereof is IPsec termination. The participants provided various solutions to the gateway function with results being discussed in the white paper.
The vendor implemented a version of its solution in software that is meant to run on a standard off the shelf server. Thus, service providers can run multiple virtual network functions (VNFs) in the same server. The test set-up centered on service provider deployment requirements, specifically on performance and latency.
Both LPUI-1T line card models (24x 40GbE and 8x 100GbE per slot) performed at line rate for all packet sizes tested as well as in a dual- stack IPv4/IPv6 configuration. All core-routing and services functioned as expected alongside consistent convergence measurements between all test runs. Set-up in a Huawei NE5000E, it is also energy efficient.
The tests spanned the entire converged network - base station to the Internet and all elements in between. The solution is designed and developed with Ericsson’s extensive understanding of operator and subscriber needs. The report shows the completeness, packet-based clock synchronization, high availability, performance and scalability.
We confirmed Cisco’s claims that the QvPC supports UMTS (3G) and LTE (4G) calls just as the physical EPC, the Cisco ASR5000-family, would. EANTC further verified that functions such as High Availability, Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), and firewall/NAT worked as expected in the Cisco UCS-based virtual implementation.
Türk Telekom AS achieved the title by transferring 8 terabits of data per second using a Wave-Division Multiplex (WDM) solution in the production network. The transfer was employed by 80 100Gbit/s channels on a single fibre, utilizing Alcatel-Lucent's 1830 Photonic Service Switch and 1626 Light Manager. The data transfer rate was a commercial execution on a pair of fibrotic connections. EANTC acted as an independent expert witness, measuring the capacity data transfer speed, permitting Guinness World Records to verify the achievement.
The NE5000E with its three different 400 Gbit/s line cards showed a high forwarding performance on both line card and full chassis load. Huawei pushes the boundaries for Ethernet density, services’ scale and power efficiency. The tests included distributed BGP, distributed RSVP, virtual router and unequal cost multipath load balancing.
In preparation for Layer123's SDN & OpenFlow World Congress Huawei Technologies commissioned EANTC to validate Huawei’s OpenFlow solution targeted at service providers. The white paper explains the use cases, test cases and results we collected during the test execution in EANTC’s lab in Berlin, Germany.
EANTC used the vendor's RFC (Request for Comment) 2544 built-in tester on complete interfaces. The measurements functioned as expected and provided useful and well displayed output on the command line interface (CLI). Huawei explained that they will support the ITU-T Y.1564 solution in an upcoming release of their software.
The IPv6 Hackers list was created to provide a platform for IPv6 security researchers and IPv6 networking professionals. Since August 2011 members discuss low-level IPv6 networking and security issues. Now EANTC's offices saw the first in-person meeting with a variety of presentations and discussions on IPv6 security.

The Beuth University of Applied Science, EANTC and the University of Potsdam in cooperation with Strato AG joined forces to independently assess the current risks of IPv6 attacks. Together intrusion detection tools were developed and commercial firewalls were put to the test. First results were presented at the V6 World Congress in Paris.
Under EANTC's Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) test program, we verified the scale of Cisco's solution up to 75 Million subscribers. In addition, EANTC tested realistic Voice over LTE (VoLTE) use cases at scale with up to 250,000 transactions/s.
EANTC tested Comverse’s DMM Policy Manager. The mobile policy controller (PCRF) supported up to 31.5 Million subscribers and more than 200,000 transactions/second. EANTC used Developing Solutions’ dsTest to emulate large-scale realistic test scenarios. This report marks the launch of EANTC’s next-generation PCRF test program 2013.

Commissioned by Light Reading, EANTC reviewed all aspects of cloud service delivery with Cisco components: intelligent network, cloud data center infrastructure, cloud applications and services. We independently validated Cisco’s data center to consumer solution regarding performance.
EANTC tested Crossbeam’s X80-S firewall solution in a test environment emulating a next generation mobile network. Using Spirent Avalanche, more than one Million active mobile subscribers were emulated generating more than 107 Gbit/s of data throughput. The test demonstrates the Crossbeam Firewall under real-world conditions.

Cisco commissioned EANTC to test their MPLS-TP (MPLS Transport Profile) solution. EANTC verified the functionality of new Operations, Administration and Management (OAM) features and measured out of service times during realistic link failure events. The European Advanced Networking Test Center successfully tested the performance of Arista's new high-density DCM-7508 384-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch.
EANTC verified the performance of the packet transport protection mechanisms of Alcatel-Lucent's 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS). In January 2010, the tests were performed at EANTC's lab in Berlin.
EANTC successfully tested the performance, functionality and capabilities of the new SITLine ETH VLAN encryption device. The test results confirmed that the device is able to encrypt Ethernet traffic without impacting the network performance.
Arista Networks entrusted EANTC recently with testing the performance of Arista’s 7148SX 48-port, 10 GbE switch. The goal of the test was to verify the performance characteristics such as the non-blocking throughput capacity and the low latency of switch.

EANTC recently tested the Advanced RTP Monitoring Solution developed by VOIPFUTURE. The test was set up to verify the vendor’s claim that the Smart RTP Monitoring Probe should be able to analyze VoIP streams in real-time at gigabit Ethernet full line rate, thereby detecting packet loss and IP packet delay variation.
Alcatel-Lucent and EANTC recently performed a design verification test for a major European carrier to emulate performance and operability of the vendor's 7750 SR-7 and 7740 ESS-7 devices under real-life conditions. It was set up to verify the use for aggregation Ethernet Backhauling of Layer 3 VPN services over layer 2 services.
