i14y Lab Plug Fest 2025

i14y Lab Plug Fest 2025

In 2025, we co-hosted two editions of the i14y Lab PlugFest, conducted as part of the O-RAN Global PlugFest Spring and Fall cycles, working in collaboration with Deutsche Telekom and the i14y Lab consortium partners.

Both PlugFests focused on validating multi-vendor interoperability and technical readiness based on O-RAN Alliance specifications and tailored TIP test plans, contributing to the development of open, flexible, and future-ready RAN architectures.

PlugFest Spring 2025

The Spring PlugFest Pre-Staging took place from 22–25 April, and the Main Testing from  28 April–9 May 2025.  The i14y Lab was one of six labs across Europe serving as a venue for the O-RAN Global PlugFest Spring 2025.

Testing was structured into two core testing scenarios:

The goal was to validate the cooperation between Rimedo Labs Cell On/Off Switching (COOS)-xApp and TS-xApp deployed in the Juniper Near-RT RIC and Rimedo Labs COOS-rApp in Juniper Non-RT RIC on the energy efficiency optimization task under the network emulated by the Keysight RICTest on the basis of the data provided by the Deutsche Telekom (T-Labs).

Key aspects:

      • Both RICs and key O-RAN interfaces (E2, O1, and A1) were utilized
      • TS-xApp, COOS-xApp, and COOS-rApp were cooperating on the energy efficiency optimization
      • The real-world data provided by the T-Labs was utilized
      • Power savings of up to 30%

Capgemini showcased robust end-to-end integration of its O-DU/O-CU with VVDN’s O-RU and VIAVI’s UE emulator, focusing on stress and long-duration stability testing.

The setup demonstrated high-performance 5G SA architecture with real-time processing and hardware acceleration.

Highlights included:

  • UDP/TCP Peak throughputs
  • 12-hour continuous operation

These proved the solution’s resilience under load and reinforced Capgemini’s leadership in delivering scalable, open, and interoperable RAN solutions.

Test execution was followed by reporting 12–16 May 2025 and internal result publication within the O-RAN Alliance 19–23 May 2025.

PlugFest Fall 2025

The i14y Lab PlugFest Fall 2025, which EANTC AG co-hosted together with Deutsche Telekom and the i14y Lab consortium partners, as part of the joint European venue of the O-RAN ALLIANCE PlugFest Fall 2025, bringing together seven hosts across six labs, 14 O-RAN Alliance member vendors, and two open-source projects.

This second edition of Test activities in the i14y Lab was conducted from November 3 to 14, 2025, and the results were published in collaboration with the O-RAN Alliance at the beginning of December 2025

The i14y Lab PlugFest focused on advancing open, interoperable, and energy-efficient O-RAN systems. The testing covered Layer 1 acceleration, consistent and repeatable open fronthaul testing across multiple labs, E2E deployment templates, DevOps workflows, and test automation in four Scenarios:

Distributed Antenna System (DAS)  latency validation, confirming the O-RAN fronthaul advantage over legacy analogue latency management.
Vendors:
• O-RU/DAS: ANDREW an Amphenol company
 • O-DU Emulator: VIAVI Solutions
• Test Tools: Rohde & Schwarz

Identical test cases executed at SONIC Labs (Digital Catapult) and i14y Lab to validate multi-lab reproducibility.
Vendors:
• O-DU/O-CU: Software Radio Systems
• O-RU: Benetel
• UE Emulator: VIAVI Solutions

Improved downlink/uplink throughput stability in mobility scenarios with link reliability enabled.
