Significant advances have been made in routing and traffic control technologies over Segment Routing networks as part of the multi-vendor interoperability tests conducted at EANTC.
We present three new videos, including the first-ever testing of Unreachable Prefix Announcements (UPAs) in SRv6, the full deployment of IPv6 control planes for SR-MPLS, and in-depth testing of BIER multicast replication in SRv6 networks, underscoring the industry’s commitment to continuous improvement and cross-vendor collaboration.
SRv6 Unreachable Prefix Announcement Testing
We want to share the revolutionary advances in SRv6 UPA testing. This year marked the first-ever inclusion of UPAs in our extensive testing protocol. Unreachable Prefix Announcements (UPA) are a routing feature significantly reducing convergence times when prefixes become available in large routed infrastructures. Five vendors (Cisco, H3C, Juniper, Keysight, and Nokia) successfully participated in this demonstration and showed their solution’s seamless integration and robust efficiency. This highlighted the industry’s capability to work together to advance networking technologies. Industry experts, such as Diego Achaval (Nokia) and Malake Abidar (Keysight), also participated, providing valuable insights into UPA’s technical details and benefits.
Segment Routing MPLS with IPv6 Control Plane
At the EANTC interoperability testing event, four vendors —Arista, Juniper, Keysight, and Nokia— successfully validated an entire IPv6 control plane for Segment Routing over MPLS (SR-MPLS) networks. All control plane aspects were implemented using IPv6: BGP, SR-TE, FlexAlgo, and delay measurement protocols. IPv4 was not used at all. The speakers in this session include the experts Anton Elita (Juniper), Victor Alenin (Nokia), and Russell Kelly (Arista).
Multicast in SRv6 (BIER)
From all types of traffic in Ethernet/IP networks, Multicast has been the most challenging type to handle efficiently and scalable. The relatively new standard Bit Indexed Explicit Replication (BIER) specifies how to natively transport multicast traffic in Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6) networks. At the annual EANTC multi-vendor interoperability events, we tested BIER previously, but this time, more vendors successfully participated in more in-depth testing. In this video, Juniper, Keysight, Huawei, and Nokia explain multi-vendor how interoperable BIER multicast replication works through the experts Suneesh Babu (Juniper), Hooman Bidgoli (Nokia), and Malake Abidar (Keysight).
Keep an eye out for our publications. They will show how these innovations are shaping the future of networking technology, ensuring multi-vendor interoperability and readiness for next-generation demands. You can also read the full report here.
