i14y Lab

i14y Lab

Open Lab for Test, Validation & Integration of Disaggregated Networks

The i14y Lab at Deutsche Telekom Innovation Campus in Berlin accelerates OpenRAN and network disaggregation and provides infrastructure and support for testing and integrating the components of open, disaggregated networks to the wider community.

The German Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) is supporting the i14y Lab with 17 M funding because the lab will accelerate time to market for disaggregated network solutions and be of great importance to building an ecosystem of such vendors in Germany and Europe.

With interoperability at its heart, the labs name uses a commonly used abbreviation, where the 14 stands for the number of characters left out between the “i” and “y” of the word interoperability.

EANTC is happy to be part of the consortium. Other partners are BISDN, Capgemini Engineering, Deutsche Telekom AG, Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, highstreet Technologies, Nokia, Rohde & Schwarz, Telefonica, TU Berlin, and Vodafone.

Reducing time-to-market and getting the Open RAN ecosystem ready for mass deployment are challenging goals which EANTC is taking on. We contribute to the joint effort our experience in large-scale multi-vendor interoperability programs, innovative performance and scalability testing, and realistic end-to-end use case-focused validations. EANTC is responsible for automating all test scenarios, speeding up the testing and lowering the entry barriers for European Open RAN vendors, SMEs, and startups, towards creating an open ecosystem where all vendors are welcome to collaborate.
